I’ve just recently started this blog, in case you haven’t noticed. I migrated from Blogsome, which was using WordPressMU, to my own hosted webserver, powered by WordPress 2.0. Blogsome had some big problems, mainly with the xmlrpc, which would normally have allowed me to post through an external client, through Flickr, and others. Now I’m running my own server, with plugins that can do that for me now.

Just setting up the server was a great deal of work. I installed Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) and started installing the necessary web server packages. Some of these include, MySQL, PHP5, Apache2, and eventually WordPress. I had a few problems with Apache 2 at first, but everything ended up working fine, as you can tell.

I migrated my old theme from Blogsome over to this webserver, and it seems to be working just fine. There are still a few tweaks I need to make, but they’re relatively small. I’m going to list all the plugins I have installed, but not necessarily using.

Activated Plugins:

  • Akismet (Anti-Spam)
  • Bushisms (Not configured yet)
  • Search Everything
  • Theme Switcher
  • Flickr Post Bar
  • Upload Manager
  • Database Backup

Inactive Plugins:

  • AdRotator
  • Comment Quicktags
  • Latest Posts
  • Simple Asides
  • Google Analytics (Waiting until I get an invitation)
  • WordPress Theme Manager (I’ll probably remove this one, it’s buggy)

If anyone has any other cool plugins that they like and think I might like, feel free to drop me a comment. I’m waiting for the WP Plugin Manager to get re-released, so once I get that, things should be quite easy.
